About Maki

I have a strong passion for mentoring young people, helping them build confidence and independence, and create a positive learning experience through being patient and kind. A major part of my approach is making learning practical and enjoyable. Rather than simply telling a young person what they should do, I try to create opportunities for them to practice skills in real-life situations. My experience working with children and young people also includes employment with Kaiser Permanente as an Educational Therapist, as well as serving as a Program Coordinator, Recruiter, and Mentor with FDLC in Norwalk, California. I have also volunteered with organizations and programs including Toys for Tots, U. S. Special Olympics, 118th Street Elementary School, and multiple youth baseball tournaments. These experiences have allowed me to work with children from different backgrounds and develop an understanding of the importance of patience and kindness.
