About Mahara

My name is Mahara. I have worked as a live-in nanny for 3-year-old and 8-year-old sisters, a 2-year-old boy, and a 7-year-old girl. I did these nanny jobs when I was in college. I have also worked as a camp counselor for an Easter Seals camp, volunteered as a Big Sister, worked with adolescents in group homes as a counselor, and after volunteering at Whiskey Town Environmental Need Camp School, was given my own group of kids. I love being in an outdoor environment with children. I also enjoy preparing whole and healthy meals. I am artsy / crafty, and like hands-on projects as well as instructing children in the academics and life skills. I enjoy playing games, drama, and am musically inclined. While in Bali, I taught English to elementary children at a Montessori inspired. multicultural school; at an English academy school to high school students and adults; and at two different 5 star hotels. In South Korea I was the Native English Teacher to 650 middle school kids for 2 years. Currently I am substitute teaching for several different school districts grades K through high school. I teach most subjects including working with the severely disabled. Because of my work in the education system and abroad, I have been fingerprinted numerous times, as well as have had extensive background checks. I also have plenty of experience working with seniors, both as a live-in companion; as part of a care team; and one-on-one with Alzheimer, Dementia, and Parkinson's patients. I am caring, compassionate, patient, interactive, mindful, clean, entertaining, honest, and reliable. I am educated, holding a B. A. in Humanistic Psychology with am emphasis in Art Therapy. I am trained as a practitioner and teacher of several alternative healing modalities, including Jin Shin Jyutsu, which is also known as acupuncture without needles. I am a certified Health Coach and Live Food Chef, massage therapist, JSJ practitioner and Self-Help Instructor, and Oneness Blessing facilitator. I have an TEFL certificate for teaching English abroad. I love animals and animals love me. I have done pet care for cats, dogs, horses, and birds. My care of animals has included feeding, exercising, playing, and medication. I enjoy traveling, adventure, the outdoors, swimming, hiking, camping, and gardening.
