My experience with this caregiver was unfortunately negative. I conducted a phone screen, in-person interview, trial day, and two working days with her. I ultimately offered her the position as she was warm, engaging with my daughter, and had excellent references. However, over several weeks of communication, there were continual changes to core commitments: she did not actually live locally (or wasn't imminently moving back as initially stated), was unable to start on the date we agreed upon (after pushing it out a week from my initial ask), and could not work the hours we had discussed from the beginning. She also increased her hourly rate after I agreed to her initial ask. Each of these issues alone would be concerning, but together they showed a lack of reliability and transparency. This situation left my family without childcare at the last minute, which was incredibly stressful and disruptive. Entrusting your child to someone is a significant decision, and reliability is crucial. Ultimately, I had to recind our offer as I could not continue to accommodate her ever-changing situation. Based on my experience, I would recommend proceeding with caution with this caregiver in the near future.
