As a mom of 2, when we immigrated from Fiji to the US in 2015, I wasn't able to commit to a full time position. My husband is busy with his work and travel schedule so I had to be available for my children. However, our grandmother (my husbands grandma) was in her early 90s at the time so I gladly took on a light caregiver role for her. I took her to the stores, to her appointments and made sure she was taking her necessary medications. Keeping her house clean and in order with light housekeeping whenever needed. Coming from my cultural background, caring for the elderly is ingrained in us even at a very young age. Fijian children know that they are at the beck and call of their elders and to care for the elders is a privilege.
