My name is Loye. I retired to care for my elderly parents. My father had dementia and my mother had Alzheimers. The journey I went on with them taught me a great deal and gave me a new direction in life caring for the elderly, dementia patients and their loved ones. I want to do what I can to help others cope with this terrible disease, both patients and caregivers. I am a creative person, kind, love animals, non-smoker, regularly vaccinated, have a safe driving record and reliable transportation. I enjoy music, cooking and welcome light housekeeping and errands / driving, going on outings and finding activities that may work for your loved ones.
This was my second experience with a parent in need of a caregiver, and in the 10 years (and counting) that I lived through the process I would consider Loye the gold standard against which other caregivers should be assessed. My mother underwent several medical procedures over the last few years, and the early stages of dementia have begun to manifest. More problematic for me is that until two months ago she lived in the Northwoods, some 2000 miles away and a full day's travel for me regardless of the route. After connecting with Loye about the particulars of my mother’s needs, she ended up with a new friend while I had peace of mind thanks to Loye’s consistent companionship. There are not many people that understand dementia as something that does not improve with repetition, but Loye quickly related his experience with, in his words, “meeting someone where they are.” In my mother’s case this meant visiting regularly, sharing a meal (including those prepared by Loye), visiting points of interest, and of course a weekly stop for ice cream (and a picture). I needed more than just a set of eyes until I could get her relocated closer to me – I needed someone who could be there for her. Here's something to think about as you browse caregiver profiles: How many applicants post just one picture of themselves? It struck me that Loye had six photos, each providing a hint of someone I really didn’t know but taken together a statement that he was willing to share personal details of himself to help me with my decision. My mother and I were both very lucky to find Loye.
