About Loretta

I hired Loretta to care for my then-4.5-month-old son for four full-time days during a week this summer. I was anxious about leaving my boy with a stranger for any length of time, but Loretta radiates this calm confidence that put me immediately at ease. She's incredibly conscientious, efficient, and clean -- she's the sort of person who takes off her shoes when she enters your home without being asked, and was prepared to begin working the second the showed up in my home. She's happy to chat, but was just as content keeping to herself. It was incredibly easy to have her around, even while I was working from home. There was never an awkward moment, and I never questioned the safety of my son or my belongings around Loretta. My infant is large (20+ lbs. at that time) and Loretta is a petite woman, but seemed perfectly capable of handling him, even as she danced him to sleep in her arms and then stayed by his side as he napped to make sure he didn't wake early. She played with him, sang him songs, and kept him engaged so that he never became bored and fussed. Yet, she didn't overstimulate him. Her manner hits that perfect note between entertaining and soothing. When she wasn't directly dealing with him, like while I was nursing, she was happy to clean or prepare homemade baby food. She's been a nanny for a very long time, and knows exactly how to care for children of all ages, but never disagreed with me when I asked her to do something. She respected my authority as the mother, even though she may not always have agreed with my decisions. I never felt usurped, and I doubt I ever would. Loretta was just perfect. The big problem for me now is that everyone else I consider just seems second-best to her!
