Nurturing young minds is my passion, sparked by years of joyful babysitting experiences and a desire to support busy families. For seven years, I have cared for children of all ages, from infants to pre-teens. I have experienced as an RBT in clinic with children on the spectrum!

My approach is patient, creative, and friendly. I enjoy playing outdoor sports and educational games. I am comfortable caring for up to three children and enforcing household rules. I communicate with parents through daily reports, verbal updates, and texts. I am happy to assist with cooking, carpooling, light housekeeping, travel, crafts, and swimming supervision. She took care of our kids, 3 and 6, for a couple days. Second day we let left her at our local museum with kids in the afternoon. The kids were happy and we were too.

Leia watched my children for one entire day recently. Her communication prior to the start date was outstanding. She proactively confirmed date and time closer to her start date. She showed up exactly on time. After I showed her around and shared some ideas on how to engage kids, she immediately engaged them in coloring. I was very impressed. What followed later was utterly shocking. She sat in the same exact place for almost 2 hours, so did my kids. She was fully immersed in her phone and superficially interacted with kids when THEY engaged her. They later moved to another room as I had cleaners in the house, when I checked in a few minutes later, she was lying on the floor, intensely typing away on her phone, and totally ignoring the children. At that moment, after enduring this for 2+ hours, I asked her to put away her phone. Her first response was "I am just messaging people on Care.com", and then when I said she had been at it for a few hours, she changed her story to her mother being sick and her receiving updates from the hospital, about which she said nothing when she came to work. After that, there were moments when I felt things would turn around, ex: when she took them to play outside, but she continued her hot and cold with the kids throughout the day, blatantly ignoring them when they tried to engage her. I can see why people have rated her as 5*. Based on my experience, my assessment is that she has learnt to game the system. She knows how to do the things that make people feel that their kids and home is cared for.  She did clean up after the kids quite well. But when the parents aren't looking, she isn't doing her job. She literally thought she could sit there browsing her phone all day and that would be called babysitting and earn her hourly rate and move on. She perhaps didn't know that we have cameras in the house, in plain sight, not hidden. Usually I give all our sitters a heads up that we have them, and in Leia's case, I genuinely forgot to tell her that, and ended up witnessing her real style and babysitting method. We have been hiring sitters and had full time nannies for 5 years now, no one has been this indifferent and insincere towards their work, towards our children, in the first hour of their job no less. If you end up hiring her, do so with great caution. Leia, I hope you will take this feedback constructively, and try to do your job with sincerity and genuine care towards children and families moving forward.
