I've been working with Lauren since March 2014; we both work for the school district and our title is Special Education Assistant I. Working with Lauren has been a wonderful experience because I have gained a friend and I am now able to say what a great employee she is. Our class ranges from kindergarten to second grade students; she is with us during the morning and spends the rest of the day with the third to fifth grade students. I have seen Lauren demonstrate great capacity in working with children. When working with kids in general, one must have patience as well as the ability to communicate effectively with children since, they do not always respond to instructions the first time. For example, some of our students have a difficult time with transition and this is when effective communication is essential in order for the child to follow directions. It makes me happy to say that our students have improved in both academics as well as behavior and this is a result of team work between teacher and assistants. In addition, Lauren is not the kind to wait for instructions because she takes initiative and does what she needs to do in order to assist both the teacher and students. I know Lauren is a perfect fit to work with kids because she is patient, caring and she enjoys the interaction with children. We believe that working with kids is a bit of a challenge and sometimes stressful however, this job is rewarding because it is priceless to see students improve. Finally, as I already mentioned above, Lauren is with the younger students in the mornings so, when the children see her throughout the day they run to hug her because they miss her. This demonstration of affection the students have toward Lauren goes on to show that Lauren is not only good at what she does but also that the children enjoy get company as much as she does theirs.
