About Lanie

I love reading, writing, English, and math, and would love to help your kids with these subjects in a positive, productive, and confidence-boosting environment. I teach a few storytelling courses to homeschooled kids on Recess and tutor in English and Math with Study Smart tutors as well as private families. I like tutoring because I struggled with reading when I was little and was told I was bad at it, which led me to not want to read. Now I'm a writer and avid reader, which proves that wasn't true, and the negativity held me back. I want to give students the confidence to learn and grow in a safe, patient setting where they're free to feel vulnerable and find their confidence. I got my start working with kids by volunteering with Young Storytellers, teaching fifth graders how to write stories. I loved this experience, watching shy kids gain confidence in their writing and thus in themselves. My greatest skills include patience, listening, and observing.
