Lanie is so nice and very experienced. I interviewed her and would have loved to hire her, but our family needs to pay legally and Lanie won't pay taxes. If you pay cash, Lanie is strongly recommended. I wish we could pay cash, but we can't.

(2 of 2) While I obviously can't speak to the circumstances that caused Lanie to decline to return to the previous reviewer's home, I know that Lanie hated confrontation, especially anything that would involve a difficult conversation with us as the parents.  If Lanie felt threatened (e.g. reduction of pay if she raised issues) or unsupported (e.g. not permitted to give children minor discipline like timeouts when their behavior is out of control), especially with a new family, she very likely tried to avoid raising such concerns in person unless absolutely necessary.  Again, she never left us hanging over 6.5 years of service, and we also heard the same from the references we checked with her previous families before us.  Her professionalism and reliability were, frankly, why we hired her & one of the qualities we valued most from her.

(1 of 2) Lanie was our nanny for 6.5 years, taking care of our 2 kids from their birth until June 2020 when we moved out of state.  I felt compelled to write this review in light of another review that claimed Lanie was unprofessional.   For us, she was a very professional and trusting caretaker for our kids, & we would highly recommend her to anyone.  
The entire time she was w/ us, she was never unexpectedly late.  Not once. She showed up every day on time, & if she thought she would be late (e.g. b/c of weather), she would communicate immediately with us. She gave us very advanced notice (usually months ahead) when she wanted time off, & worked around our schedules for our vacations. Lanie played a pivotal role in helping teach our kids responsibility, manners, & respect for each other, and we believe our kids are well-rounded & polite today b/c of her influence. She also loved our kids like her own, going above & beyond to give them new experiences & develop their social skills.

6 Wonderful Years!  Lanie was our nanny for 6+ years until we moved away from Chicago in 2020. She really was part of the family. We always had a great working relationship w/ her, and she cared deeply for our kids as if they were her own. She helped w/ many household activities, doctors appointments, swim lessons, etc. She has been trustworthy, reliable, and helped us on numerous occasions. She comes on time every day, rain/shine/snow/etc. On the rare occasion when she was sick or needed to schedule time off, she told us promptly so we could make care arrangements.
As examples:
-She came at midnight to stay w/ our daughter the night our son was born.
-She came early the first snow to give us extra time to get to the train.
-Without us asking, would give our kids and dogs baths when she knew we had some place to go or were crunched for time
Most of all, our children love and adore her. She is a great influence on them too, personally and with integrity.

Parents beware. We hired Lanie to take care of my two kids beginning of August. She just left without giving me a 2 week notice and on a text. I called her back and texted her she didn't reply to either. She had told me earlier that she left another family within 1 day. Very bad and unprofessional. Her husband later informed us that "she gets bored and wants to be busy but doesn't really want to work. She has reached a certain age." It is not okay for her to treat us like guinea pigs for her amusement. If I could give her 0 stars I would. I also contacted her previous employer about how Lanie behaved and met him know the kind of person they had taking care of their kids.
