I am a LVN nurse and worked in a SNF for over a year and a half. I took care of my grandparents for 3 years with my brother and while it can be challenging it was very rewarding. I really enjoyed their company and love helping them in being able to continue to live in their own environment in their home. I understand the good days and the not so good days and how important it is to have someone to rely on and enable them to have has normal routine as possible. When dealing with seniors or caring for someone , your not just an employee but a friend and one with knowledge. Manage appointments, meds, oxygen tanks, diabetic needs, nutrition needs, blood pressure, etc light house keeping and food preparation. I also had a daughter that I had taken care of that lived in a bubble for 8 months between home and hospital. She had a severe allergic retain and took a lot of attention and care to recover. Patience and knowledge is key!
