I am a stay-at-home mom of two young children; the best job ever. However, we just purchased our first home and are in need of some additional income. I love children and have worked with them most of my life. A caregiver is the ideal position for me. I started working as a mother's helper at the age of 11 years old. I continued on as a babysitter, and then worked part-time as a teacher's aide at a childcare center in high school. Once I graduated and began college, I moved up in the center and became one of their preschool teachers. While at that center, I specialized in teaching children with both behavioral issues as well as special needs. I left that center twice to nanny for families of my preschoolers who wanted to keep their new infants at home. I returned as a teacher to the center both times, and requested to continue working in a classroom geared more towards special needs. Eventually I did move on to focus on schooling (I was working on a human services degree). I then began working part-time with troubled children at a group home and also helped out in homes for children with Down syndrome as well. Later, I went on to nanny again, but this time, for a family with a 2-year-old boy who had autism. I brought him to his therapy sessions and spent a ton of time with him. The two of us became very close, and I enjoyed the way we bonded very much. (he and his family actually live one street over from our new home now). After getting engaged, I began working as a full-time preschool teacher once again, but at a new center. I soon moved up to become the Assistant Director there, but left to stay home with my son after he was born. When my son was around 18 months old, I went back to part-time work as a tutor for 3-7-year-old kids at an enrichment center. I also was a nanny (once again) for a family with school age children. Their 5-year-old boy had ADHD and some speech delays. I was responsible for a lot of his learning and behavior work, as well as helping with medication and getting him to his classes and therapy. Once I became pregnant with my daughter, I was able to stop working for a long while, which I loved. My children are now 3 and 6 and I am ready to get back to some part-time work and hopefully help to supplement my husband's income a bit, while doing something that I truly love to do.
