My experience working with the elderly began when my grandmother was diagnosed with Alzheimer's, I cared for her and provided all her personal care as well as companionship for 7 years, all at the young age of 14. After she had passed on, My grandfather was diagnosed with lung cancer and I was his "right hand man" through all chemo & radiation treatments as well as personal care and housekeeping. Growing up and being a catholic, I volunteered in convalescent homes and the elderly were always people I enjoyed. I have had one other job outside of the healthcare field (still in H. S.) but somewhere in my heart I knew that providing the best care possible for elderly and people in their end stages of life is what I was destined to do. Although the personal care is a big part of the job, It is also important to provide them with the best quality of life whether that means participating in activities, or just a simple conversation with someone who has an open ear to listen.

Kelly took care of my elderly grandfather for 3+ years, up to his dying day. In her interview, she stated that this type of work wasn’t considered a ‘job’ to her, as she enjoyed doing it and building relationships with her clients. She proved this as she went above and beyond each and every day with her care and compassion.
