I have been babysitting since the age of 12, and most recently nannied for two boys from the ages 3 & 5 to 5 & 7. I was with my last family for over a year and built the ideal relationship with both the kids and the parents by becoming part of the family. In my time as a nanny (and particularly with this last family), I was sensitive to what comforted and intrigued me as a child and what it was I wanted to carry out as a child care provider. I did this not by relying on my own interests but remembering the sense of power it gave me to have adults be excited and encouraging of my own thoughts and interests. I strongly encourage children to feel positively about themselves and what they're doing and the ideas they have. I also try to emphasize the importance of children being able to recognize what they want to do and help guide them to make their own choices. I'm very fun and optimistic and very experienced with working with children. I'm incredibly responsible and protective of the children I work with and watch. I try to gauge the child(ren)'s personality to see what kind of activities he or she may be interested in (i.e.: reading, romping around outside, arts and crafts, etc.) so that I can react properly to what will make them happy. I also am incredibly patient and try to keep everything positive so that the child(ren) can feel comfortable and get to know me. I'm very open and love working with children. I take care to achieve what the parents lay out to be done with the child(ren) i.e.: homework, bedtime, dinner, etc. but try to leave room for the child(ren) and me to figure out what we want to do to build a relationship and have fun. Communication (both between the parents and myself and the children and myself) is crucial to my child care style. Respect and patience are also values I hold highly. Mostly, I try to find ways to be inventive and explore new ideas with the child(ren) as well as carry out my responsibilities.
