About Kathryn

Working with Opening Minds through Art, a program supporting older adults with dementia through creative expression, was about more than creativity. It was about connection, dignity, and supporting emotional, psychological, and physical well-being through meaningful interaction. That experience left a lasting impression on me and deepened my love for spending time with and assisting older adults in a purposeful, human way. Alongside that, I also have personal caregiving experience living with my grandmother for two years after college as her dementia progressed. I supported her with daily needs like medication management, grocery shopping, meal preparation, cleaning, and planning gentle, engaging activities. Most importantly, I was her companion. My grandmother is my best friend, and caring for her never felt one-sided. It was rooted in love, laughter, patience, and mutual care. We showed up for each other in different ways, and that bond is something I will always carry with me.
