I have a "twice exceptional child" who is autistic. The first few sessions were great. Kate is very thoughtful and put in a good amount of preparation for working with my son. Unfortunately my son had an autistic meltdown during a recent session. My son's meltdowns are generally crying and panic. No violence or harmful behaviors. I was quite surprised and saddened to see how rattled Kate was by the episode. She immediately left and and texted me shortly after leaving to say she was not a good fit for my son. Kate is young and has a lot to learn about working with neurodivergent children. Her unwillingness to continue working with my son after his meltdown hurts my heart, because my son struggles every day of his life. He is really a loving and gentle soul who feels a great deal of shame and sorrow for being autistic. He needs positive role models in his life championing him, and unfortunately, despite her promising resume, Kate is not going to be that person.
