To Whom It May Concern: I am pleased to recommend Katherine for childcare position. As Teen Futures Director, I have had the privilege of having Katherine as a staff member in an after school program since January of this year. Although she has been with the teens for a short time Katherine has a respected tenure with the K-5 Afterschool Excellence program since 2010. Kat left for a short time to explore other opportunities in the fall but when I caught wind of her return to Vermont. I sought her out to work with the teens. Katherine possesses a unique mix of creativity, patience and flexibility that I have not seen in many others. Her upbeat personality and engaging, creative personal style enables her to interact effectively with any teen at the Center. As we all know working with teens can be challenging at times. She can adapt and accommodate her activities on the fly to cater to any teen through our doors. As an artist Kat has brought a creative flare to our program that I cannot replicate. She can look at something as simple as a book that is falling apart and about to be discarded and turn it into an exciting zine project. Through crossing out words and phrases on the pages she and the teens are able to create some new and exciting out of something old. This is done all while analyzing and putting careful thought into the words and their meanings. While working with our teens Katherine always exercises patience and flexibility. She understands that by the time the teens make their way to us they have had a long academic day with potential for a lot of positives and unfortunately negatives. She never forces anything upon a teen but rather leads by example and lets the quality of the activity draw the kid in. She will show the teens how there are many ways to look at and start the activity while still arriving at a point of satisfactory completion.
