About Karin

Hi, my name is Karin. I have an applied associate educational assistant degree from Ridgewater College in Hutchinson, MN. I have assisted in Sunday school and VBS at my church. I have worked for seven years at a Montessori school. The first three years I worked in preschool (ages 3-6). I briefly left the Montessori school and was a nanny to boys ages 3 and 5. I drove them to preschool, played games and did cooking projects with them. We also went to the parks and library. I did light cleaning and some laundry while there. Then in December of 2006 I went back to the Montessori school and began working in the transition room (older toddlers). Currently this summer I am working in the young toddler class. I also have past experience working part-time and subbing at an in-home daycare. While there I cared for and taught children 3 months-9 years; but the primary care was for the infants-6 years. While there besides the care of the children I did dishes and light cleaning. Why am I passionate about what I do? First and foremost because I love children! And I know it sounds sappy, but they really are our future! I believe children learn by being out in the world and making discoveries! When we were out for a walk they discover the creeping caterpillar on the leaf, they feel the wind in their face, so they turn around and let the wind help them run faster! Yes, structure/guided learning has its place and time; but at this young of age it should only be in a moderation. Children grow-up so fast. Let them play, let them be kids. Sadly I have seen some children that their days are so planned out for them, they forgot how to play make believe or just go out and make up their own game. I don't want that to happen! It thrills me to see children making up their own little worlds! Yes, I would have structured activities as a nanny; but I would allow for plenty of free play and imagination too!
