About Karen

In the last 25+ years I have had the privilege to teach, tutor and learn from my amazing students. I've worked with students with dyslexia, ADHD, talented and gifted, English Language learners and a fabulous variety of unique personalities. I feel like it's so important to truly get to know my students and how they best learn. Building confidence and creating interest in an area of learning that might be challenging is important. I love integrating art, singing, poetry, movement, sign language, and high interest motivational themes. As a tutor / teacher I feel it is important to have obtainable goals with clear communication and feedback. I feel focused work on phonics, sight words, rhyming, syllables and writing in a variety of ways helps create learning pathways. I also like integrating these skills during a guided reading time. Having a follow up lesson the same week helps students retain new skills which is important for all subject areas.
