I have worked for more than 23 years caring for seniors in both the home and institutional settings, doing full-time live in work, and part-time I have dealt with dementia clients, ostomy care, mobility issues, and all aspects of patient well-being Including bathing, feeding, grooming and dressing, cooking, and doing patients laundry, transporting them to drs. appts and outings for shopping or patient pleasure. There is often much I can learn from them. Many patients just want to talk about their past and I enjoy that. Sometimes they just want company or want to feel they are still useful and valued, and providing that reassurance to them is a gift to me as well. A good caregiver has to be a good companion. They have to be truly interested in their patient and willing to do whatever they can to give them an enjoyable life.
