I spent nearly three years caring for my mom after a fall left her a functioning quadriplegic- she now uses an electric wheelchair and walker to get around! I am very familiar with a Hoyer lift and sling, dressing help, shower chairs and bathing help, gait belts, catheters, bed and bathroom care. I did the grocery shopping, meals, laundry, running errands, doctor appointments, coordinating OT, PT and just about everything else! Seniors are a vital part of our world, they have so much advice and knowledge that needs to acknowledged and shared. Although my expertise is mainly with children, it can easily be applied to working with seniors- talk to them, listen to what they have to say, help when needed and give them a chance to make their own decisions and choices (within reason of course).
