I have tutored Math subjects since 2013 and transitioned to online tutoring in 2018 using video call and an online whiteboard. It's effective, more flexible and safe. 

I began teaching in 1975. I'm well over the 10 year displayed by profile. My current students are in grades 7-college working on Math, Algebra, Geometry, Algebra 2, Trig, Pre-Calculus. 

I also help college students and returning adults to meet prerequisite levels & support them in course-work. I've been certified by and have tutored in the past through a local learning center. I have a Masters in Computer Science.

Classroom experience includes Guatemala then here in NY, in public and private college prep schools and at the university level as an adjunct.

John was able to fit my son in for a couple of lessons before his midterm exams and was thorough and explained everything so well for my son. He is so kind and patient when working with teens. 

My 17 years old son, who is special needs, works with John for his pre-calculus class. John has been so helpful to him- he knows his material very well and is able to explain it to my son so that my son understands it thoroughly. My son has been able to improve his performance and grades in math due to his working with John. John also is well set up, unlike many other tutors, for remote learning.

John has been very easy for my son to work with. He is very attentive to his needs and is very flexible. He helps with test prep and has helped my son pull his failing grade up to a C in less than two months!

Additionally, we are extremely grateful for his flexibility.  My son is not always the best at scheduling regular meetings with John. My 10th grade son was really struggling with Algebra II. John has really helped him with concepts that weren't clear and he does really well working at the pace that benefits my son the most. Best of all, he really looks forward to his sessions with John. The subject of math isn't stressing out the household as much anymore!

Our 15 year old son was taking a self-guided summer Algebra 2 course to place out for 10th grade but needed some instruction from a person to help him with certain concepts, so we hired John.  

John did a wonderful job with him and would sometimes spend 4-5 hours with him if necessary,  wen he did not have another student scheduled.   It was very convenient because being virtual there was no taking him or having someone come into our home,  and the timing could be flexible. 

After the first meeting with John, my son's comment was "This guys a GOAT" which, translated from teen-speak, is an acronym for Greatest Of All Time.  John made learning interesting and fun so my son always looked forward to sessions with him.  

Our son completed the course with an A and was able to place out and start 11th grade geometry in 10th grade. We will definitely utilize John's services in the future if necessary.

John has worked with my 8th grade son for several months.  Extremely flexible, makes himself available for emergency test prep/ad hoc sessions as well as working across time zones (sometimes quite late his time) during regular sessions.   Responsive through text/email and suggestive of supplemental work sheets to reinforce learning.  The completely online approach is very unique, using whiteboards and texting images of my son's tests and class worksheets. I was initially skeptical of the fact that tutor/student never see each other but it can be quite effective.  John is very patient, taking the time to go over concepts thoroughly.  Using an approach that asks questions to see what the student knows and asking "what's next" in the process is effective in creating a bridge to the student and keeping them engaged.  John is also very knowledgeable and can pick up any math topic with no prep - Algebra one day, polynomials the next, then slope - without missing a beat.

My daughter has been taught Algebra by John. He is excellent on explaining the concepts and getting straight to the point. He is very passionate about the teaching and he has helped my daughter to get  higher scores. He is very accommodating, experienced and his expertise has made my daughter improved her scores. Thanks to his way of teaching my daughter, now I can rest assured that my daughter's questions will be answered. I will definitely work with John from now on and also my other daughter will be joining him in the near future.

John is a wonderful tutor and knows the subject matter. He presents the tutoring in a manner which is collaborative with the student so that the student can focus on the most problematic areas. John's tutoring method is straightforward and easy to understand. My son's trigonometry average has increased significantly since he has started tutoring, and more importantly, the way John approaches the sessions makes my son feel more comfortable and self-assured. Additionally, he is extremely flexible with his scheduling which allows my son to fit sessions around his schedule. Without hesitation, I give my highest recommendation.

John is such a wonderful tutor! My son was really struggling with his Honors Geometry class and getting C's for the first time. After hiring John, my son's grades improved dramatically and he started becoming confident again. John always goes above and beyond ... even jumping on a tutor session at 6am to help my son before test. I plan on using him again for SAT prep during the summer.

John is fantastic.  He is currently tutoring my son in Nonlinear Algebra (9th grade).  When my son first connected with John he had high anxiety and low confidence.  Fast forward a few months with John and he has no anxiety, high confidence and doing very well in his math class.  It is also important to note my son has ADHD and John's teaching style is very accommodating to the learning style of each student.  I could of not asked for a better math tutor.  Thanks John!!! 

John has been an excellent tutor for our son.  I wasn't sure how well a remote tutor would work and if our son would find success in their time together.  As it turns out, this is the best case scenario.  Our son can get instruction from anywhere with WiFi and is becoming a more confident math student.  We have been and will continue to tutor with John.  

From the first lesson, John was able to help my daughter prepare for the SATs.  His approach to problem solving and attention to detail helped to raise her SAT scores.  I would highly recommend him to others.
