All children are different but their basic needs are the same. They need genuine interest in their thoughts and feelings, unlimited patience, guidance to keep them safe and teach them to make healthy decisions and have self worth. Fear has no place in guidance, children do not need to fear you to respect you or obey you. They need to know you care about them, accept them and adore them and that certain things are expected of them based on their age and comprehension. Respect goes both ways. And silliness is encouraged!
