About Jane

My daughter really enjoyed spending time with Jane, and Jane was able to keep her entertained. That was her strength. However, based on our experience, Jane did not meet the basic expectations we have for a nanny. After Jane played with my daughter, the child areas were often left extremely messy. Even when I specifically asked Jane to clean up and organize toys while my daughter was napping, the cleanup was minimal and tasks were left for us to finish. When my husband or I were present, we observed that Jane often stepped back instead of staying proactive with the childcare-related responsibilities we expected her to manage. Jane had told me she had experience caring for two-year-olds. However, after she started, she told me she had never changed a diaper or put a child in a car seat before. For our family, that was a serious concern because those are basic toddler-care responsibilities. I also personally observed Jane handling child-related items in a way that made her seem uncomfortable, including holding items at arm’s length or using minimal contact. For example, after my child had been eating finger foods, Jane appeared uncomfortable when my child touched her water bottle. We wanted someone who was comfortable with the messy, hands-on realities of caring for a young child, and Jane was not that person for us. Overall, while Jane was fun and engaging with my daughter, we found her unprepared for the full responsibilities of a nanny role. Based on our firsthand experience, we would not hire Jane again and would not recommend her for families looking for a proactive, hands-on nanny who can manage cleanup, diapering, car seat use, and day-to-day toddler care without significant direction.
