I have never been without a dog and a cat and I have both now. I have a 14yr old redbone coon hound with dementia who is in diapers and thinks she's a lapdog. I've had dogs that have had epilepsy, breast cancer, thyroid cancer, kidney failure. With the protocol for each disease I've learned a lot about pet medical issues. My husband teases me about the fact that I know all the names of the pets in the neighborhood before I know the people's names. I absolutely love all furry pets.
