About Heather

Hi, I'm Heather! During the school year, I'm an aide (and all-around fix-it girl) in a K-2 sped classroom. Summer's here, my schedule is flexible, and I miss the fun, so I'm offering occasional childcare. I'm ND too (ADD+), and have found my sweet spot is playing purposefully with moderate-needs autistic kids, who usually have speech delays with challenging behaviors. My approach is intuitive, preferring to meet them at their level--often on the floor. I'm patient with repetition and love figuring out how they structure their world. During outbursts, I stay focused, using sensory breaks, safety strategies, and calming techniques according to your preference. I presume competence, and celebrate their differences.
