Heather is completing her eighth year as an educator in Washington, D. C. She holds a Bachelor of Arts in English Language and Literature from The University of Maryland, College Park and a Master of Arts in Teaching Secondary English with a focus on Urban Education from The University of the District of Columbia. Heather has taught 10th, 11th, and 12th grade English, 9th grade reading intervention, SAT Preparation, and 6th grade English, before finding her sweet spot in middle school English. Heather is a Teacher of the Year candidate (D. C. OSSE) and last year, her 5th grade students earned the highest ELA PARCC scores for charter schools in DC. When she isn't posting mini-lessons to her online page or leading the ASL (American Sign Language) club, you can find Heather running with her Girls on the Run team or singing in the school stairwells.
