When I was a kid, I had the best babysitter. She baked cookies, taught me how to make microwave recipes (which I used in college), braided my hair, played dolls, went hiking, had dance parties, read books and did crafts. I still strive to be that kind of babysitter. I also loved camp as a child, and when I was old enough, I signed up to be a 4-H camp counselor. Since then I've also served as a camp counselor at a camp for kids with learning disabilities and as a camp counselor for Girls on the Run. I pursued a career in education and was a special education teacher for 8 years and two years as a general education teacher. I made the difficult decision to leave teaching and pursue working with kids in ways that involve less paperwork and more focus on engaging the kids in my care in activities that spark their learning and imagination.
We hired Hailey to care for our 8-month-old daughter a few afternoons a week. She was our first sitter, and it couldn't have gone better! Hailey is confident, calm, and fun. She has the experience to manage naps, fussiness, and anything else that might come up. She always took good notes and shared her insights about how the day went and why. Our daughter has now started daycare, but we will definitely be reaching out to Hailey for occasional sitting.
