My mother had a stroke 6 years ago that left her paralyzed on one side, unable to speak and with a feeding tube. I moved her to my home and cared for her until she died a few months ago. I never realized until this energetic, vital person became a helpless victim how great a need there is for compassionate, respectful, friends. My mother did not change into another person, her body simply let her down and put her in a position to have to rely completely on the mercy and love of others. I want to be that loving friend that can help the helpless.
