I grew up working with individual's with special needs in my classrooms since elementary school. In high school I was the teacher assistant for a special education gym class. I would facilitate and aid one of my peers with whichever physical activity we had for that day. As well, I volunteered at Balance Inc. summer rec program for youth with disabilities. Each day for a month, volunteers and the youth would get paired up one-on-one and participate in a planned activity out in the community. I have worked with individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorder, Down Syndrome, various physical disabilities, and intellectual/cognitive disabilities as well.
