I've been a caregiver for 15 years . I had a client when I started working, she's very nice and after 5 years she was diagnosed with Alzheimer's / Dementia she became violent to the other caregiver . I'm the only one can calm her down. I had diabetic client too I checked her sugar 3 times a day and managed her medications including insulin . I gave her shot short acting insulin depending how much her sugar 3x a day and long acting once a day . I cooked meals of all my clients , cleaning , laundry , giving them showers or hot sponge bath . I always make sure they are cleaned all the time . Motivate them to walk and we did motion exercises everyday , take them outside , driving them to the beach or eating lunch outside , buying their groceries. taking them to their doctors appointment. Calling their doctors for an appointment if she needs to.
Emmi provided personal care for my Mother for over a year while she was in a senior retirement home. My Mother transitioned into Memory Care and progressed through increasing degrees of dementia and behavioral complications. Mom passed just a month ago. I can not overstate how magnificently Emmi cared for Mom this entire period. She went far above and beyond my hopes in providing physical care, emotional care, and more. All family members live far away and Emmi became an invaluable conduit to connect and care for Mom. She supplemented and often supplanted staff in bathing, hygiene, clothing and feeding activities. She gave Mom a level of care and love that made all those tasks far easier, and less stressful. She paid attention to Mom’s desires and abilities so Mom could enjoy activities during the periods she was capable of doing so. She took Mom on outdoors strolls in wheelchair as Mom loved the open air. She would take care of small errands, like picking up Mom’s favorite chocolate-chip cookies. Emmi was invaluable to the family for coordinating phone calls during the moments Mom was able to talk with us. This simple action would have been virtually impossible otherwise. But beyond these activities, Emmi became a loved friend for Mom. Mom had a close friendship that she could connect to every day. Emmi’s love and friendship was a tremendous gift for Mom.
