I have been working for the past 4 months as a special education paraprofessional in several different schools in the Twin Cities area. Since February of 2013, I have worked in a school that serves only students with special needs. I am a paraprofessional in a classroom of 5 students that are very low functioning. Prior to this work, I have spent a summer as a PCA for a 14-year-old girl with DeletionP3 syndrome. I love working with young people with special needs. I find it to be so rewarding to witness and participate in the success of students that I work with as they achieve things that are difficult for them to do. It has given me a whole new outlook on life and I hope that I can continue working with this demographic. My career goal is to be a speech-language pathologist and at this point, I am taking classes in speech therapy. I know that the main demographic with whom I will be working, will be people with special needs, so at this point, I am trying to gain as much experience as I can with young children with special needs.
