I have had the experience of living with a roommate that was paraplegic, and learning how to help them and help take care of our home was an easy jumping off point. An ex-partner of mine was hospitalized and eventually lost his leg after a traumatic motorcycle accident, and I spent several months in hospital and hospice with him in a wheelchair, learning how to best help and take care of his wounds and manage his pain and medication as well as physical therapy. I was then able to help take care of an amazing woman who was paraplegic for several months as her end of life care. It has been an extremely gratifying process to help ensure people feel comfortable and safe, like they are truly being cared for. It's very hard to feel out of control and giving my client a sense of security is my top priority. I do my best to continuously educate myself and try to do the best I can in all things.
