I've been working with special needs children and adults for the past three years. As a live in caretaker, I assisted my client with morning tasks which included basic hygiene, dressing, making breakfast, eating, cleaning etc. I took attendance and kept a log book for each client who attended the group home. I assisted with daily activities, keeping each student motivated and focused. I've also worked with a non-verbal autistic adult for the past year. Working with a person who is this cognitively challenged was very different from the home, and came with new challenges. I was taught many invaluable lessons, such as awareness, safety, recognizing behavior patterns, and patience. I'm looking for a new position which will utilize my newly learned skills, and one in which I can have a positive impact on the the person. Some of my interests include reading, art, health, yoga, and cooking.
