I've been working with children for 20 plus years, as a nanny, babysitter, creative movement instruction and expressive arts facilitator. I love all children, and feel a special connection with children who are extra sensitive or challenged in some way. I have had training in the Sunrise program techniques and helped for a short time with 2 autistic children. I worked with a down syndrome teenager for years, providing a weekly creative exercise class for him. In 2013, I was an aide for a 6-year-old boy with ADD and Anxiety, and helped him outside the classroom doing various therapies. Being in nature helped him greatly, so we would go to the forest and walk in our bare feet, climb trees and play in the lake. He also responded very well to being floated in the pool. I joined him in his imaginative play and helped him feel safe and loved. He used to call me his best friend. I kept a log of his progress over the year and had regular meetings with his parents, teachers and their SSI Psychologist. Additionally, I offer information and resources to the parents of children with special needs. I feel I have a natural ability to connect with children and I love to help them become more comfortable, functional and happy in their home and school lives, developing their fullest potential.
