Experience: 10 yrs
I have been a nursing assistant for over 40 years. I consider myself to be honest, prompt, hardworking, and compassionate. I have enjoyed working with the elderly since caring for my grandmother with Parkinson disease at age of 10. I started working in my hometown nursing home at age 15 and continued until I graduated from high school. I have worked in many health-care settings. For the past 32 years I have served in the home health care setting. I am currently on the state registry in Ohio. I am certified in adult & pediatric CPR first aid & aed. My past experience, dedication and caring heart is what I always bring with me in making the lives of all people the best it can possibly be. Most recently I became a grandmother. I have two beautiful granddaughters aged 2 & a newborn. This has reignited my passion to care for children. I babysat all through school. I had several nieces & nephews I cared for before having my own children . I worked at my college daycare & was a nanny.
My 75 year old sister suffered a severe stroke in late 2023 that left her paralyzed on one side and with progressive dementia. Her husband tried to care for her but he passed away a few months later. These were very difficult times physically and emotionally and my sister was a difficult patient. Why am I sharing all this? Because Deanna stepped into that tragic situation and buoyed my sister's spirit with companionship, caregiving, and courage. Although my sister received therapies in a skilled nursing facility, it was Deanna who trained and encouraged her to graduate from a Hoyer lift to a Sara Stedy sit-stand lift. This major improvement enhanced her hygiene and mobility. It made it possible to transition from skilled nursing into an assisted living facility where her life experience was greatly improved. Deanna continued caring for my sister in the new facility and acted as her advocate. The facility staff was so convinced of Dee's credibility that they allowed my sister's pet cat to live there because Dee carried the responsibility. Dee brought continuity to care by advising and mentoring the parade of aides and nurses in the new facility. Dee held the respect of all those workers and staff. Initially we hired Dee as a companion for my sister to reduce her grief and loneliness through conversation. Dee quickly and voluntarily took on the role of family since we are out-of-town. With her skill, experience, medical knowledge, and character she exceeded what we as family could have done. She managed my sister's cash account with complete honesty and integrity. Dee kept us well informed using frequent texts and emails. Her judgement and recommendations were wise and always turned out well. Despite my sister's stubbornness and dementia Dee persisted in her friendliness, compassion, and professionalism to become my sister's best friend and trusted confidant. Dee regularly goes above and beyond the requirements of the job. Dee arranged and accompanied all my sister's doctor and dentist office visits and hospital visits. Dee's expertise in patient transfer made it possible to move between the wheelchair and the dentist chair, exam table, or hospital gurney whereas the office staff were not prepared to accomplish this without Dee. Ultimately my sister descended into hospice care. Dee ensured that she retained her dignity and comfort right up until my sister passed away with Dee holding her hand. Afterwards Dee became our agent in settling affairs with the assisted living facility and arranging a local memorial service, which she accomplished with her usual competence and efficiency. We are deeply indebted to Deanna. We recommend her without limitation and you will never regret hiring her to care for your loved one.
