I take them to do their shopping or I go for them, make sure they have taken medications as prescribed by doctor, assist with their personal hygiene or do it for them if they cannot manage, sit with them while loved ones are on vacation or they need a rescue weekend alone, and cook and clean to a certain degree. I feel that you have to have the utmost patience with your loved one and leave them in the hands of a caregiver who would treat them like they were their grandmother. I would give them more than the best I have to offer; I feel some don't have the time or patience that is needed in such a delicate matter sometimes.
