Experience: 10 yrs
The foundation of caregiving began as boy helping my grandma, shopping, house- yard work, laundry, etc. Moved in & helped until she passed at 88. In '06, a family friend I was helping was diagnosed with dementia. Became her POA, doing everything for 8+ yrs, doctor, home healthcare, physical therapy, church, included her in all my family events. This hands on experience further help me with mom & dad. Dad passed peacefully at 95, mom is good & almost 98. I worked part time helping a 6ft 2 blind man, wheelchair bound but could walk with help. Bachelors in Multimedia 3. 5gpa, published 2 historical photograph books, Downtown San Antonio, foreword by Julián Castro, '13, San Antonio's Historic Hotels, foreword by Henry Cisneros,'19. I enjoy sharing our rich history & use degree to help anyone create their life story. A member of The Union Fitness 10yrs. Experienced in home maintenance, repair, & the vast tools I still use today(Home Repair BS merit badge). Blessed with a gift to help.
David was hired as a 2nd helper for my mom but stepped up when our 1st caregiver left 2 weeks later. He worked 7 days a week changing, bathing, feeding & running errands for my mom. Though only needed 2-4 hours per day, he did this for many months taking few breaks. He never let my mom down when she called needing help late at night even though he had already been to her home that day. Those days were difficult, but he kept her laughing with love and compassion and mentally stimulated with interesting stories and history. In the last month of her life, David cared for the lady I was helping as a caregiver so I could be with my mom every day. David helped my client after surgery (cooking, driving, showering, laundry) as well with home maintenance (lawn, gutter & minor roof repair, plumbing, laying pavers & sod). He also came to my mom's at night to help with two person tasks. The skills and human qualities he shared with us were a treasured gift. We highly recommended and love David!
