I began my education in psychology & Sociology, furthering into phlebotomy & LPN, wanting to push forward to a RN, and found my preference in home health as a Healthcare Liaison. I have worked in many different medical areas (from home care, nursing homes, assisted living, hospital, hospice, clinical labs & Dialysis). I have been blessed in working with some extraordinary people and my references will be happy to inform you of my knowledge, as well as my kindness, in working with them/their loved ones. The medical field is not just a job to me, it is where my heart & passion lies! I have done everything from being a companion & doing light house work to managing, scheduling for Physical & Occupational Therapy, Pharmaceutical needs/changes, Doctor & Dentist appointments, medication managment to care managment. I'm married with a grown son. Also, I have a dog, that blesses my heart daily. I do volunteer work & spend my free time gardening, being outdoors, do canning, extracting & more.
When Dana came into my life a few years ago, I was a chronically ill youngish adult who needed help with food prep, housekeeping, bathing, and transportation. Dana is an exceptional caregiver. She is efficient, punctual, extremely reliable, detail-oriented, ultra-organized, and plans/communicates well in advance. But that brief description doesn’t show how above and beyond Dana goes when she decides to take on a client. Here are a few examples: Part of my medical condition includes an extremely limited diet, and she made sure that everything she prepared for me was both safe for me to eat and something I would like. She even took her own personal time to come up with recipes to help me get much-needed variety in my meals. She is also a master at navigating complex family dynamics and treated everyone in my household (which has 3 generations) with such warmth, respect, and kindness that she became part of the family. In addition to anticipating my needs as her client, she also anticipated my family’s needs too, such that everyone felt really seen. For example, she always brought the mail in for my grandfather, who had balance issues and had trouble walking to and from the mailbox, even though he was not her client. She partnered with me in helping me gain more and more independence. This included taking me on outings to help me gain more activity and practice leaving the house. She always cheered me on, making sure I didn’t skip my physical therapy or meals or drinks. For every doctor’s appointment she took me to, she always asked whether I wanted to see the physician alone or have her accompany me. I always asked her to come, and she was fully present and participated while giving me full control of the appointment. And she retained whatever the doctors told me, to the point where she helped me think through some of my medical decisions, helped me keep track of some of my medications, and reminded me to bring up important points to the doctor when I forgot. For more personal tasks, like bathing, she masterfully respected my privacy and kept things very gentle and hygienic the whole time. She was also willing to get creative when I started gaining strength enough to try to do more and more of the bathing myself, always managing to strike the right balance of giving me the agency I wanted and the support I really needed. She took time to learn about my culture (I’m a first generation American) and to honor it in ways that were so thoughtful and authentic. No task that I needed help with was beneath her - including helping me with laundry, paperwork, straightening up, anything that I had trouble doing because of my fatigue. She thought about how to meet my needs even when she was not even on duty. Hopefully all these examples show just how much she cares about her clients. Seriously, there are many more, I just couldn’t include them all because the review would be too long. She makes her work about helping the entire person. She brings joy into stressed out households and embodies kindness wherever she goes. If you need someone to provide compassionate and tailored care, you would be lucky and blessed to have Dana as your caregiver.
