About Colleen

Colleen was a caregiver for several months for our adult son on home hospice with brain cancer. She was very meticulous in following instructions. She attended sessions with the speech, occupational, and physical therapists, so she could see the recommended exercises, and did a daily regimen of those with our son. She learned how to use the EMS stimulator and helped our son with that every day. She managed his medications with close attention to setting them out weekly in the dispenser, and then giving them daily at the appointed times. She is a great cook, and made many yummy, nutritious dishes. She is experienced with a lot of the procedures, supplies, and equipment needed in such a situation. She doesn't balk at the "ickier" tasks, and was willing and helpful to clean up accidents, and help with sponge bathing. As needed, she would get used bed linens and soiled clothes into the washer and dryer, so we never ran out. She helped keep stock of the various supplies, and helped get them ordered through the hospice, or let us know what we needed to order. She was very meticulous in keeping daily notes in the "pass along" notebook so the other caregivers and family knew what had been done, how our son was doing, and what was needed next. As our son got progressively worse, from being able to get up and walk a little until he was completely bedridden, she adapted her care. She cared deeply about our son. When he was hospitalized a few times, she went to visit him. Many times, she made herself available when the situation was urgent and fluid and we had to adjust the time schedule for care. She helped to train other caregivers, since our son needed care 24/7. I don't know how we would have managed without her and her competent caring skills.
