I'm a Special Education Teacher with 20 years of experience teaching reading, writing, and math to students with mild-to-moderate learning disabilities, including ASD and ADHD in grades K-8. grades K-8. I am well-trained in the Orton-Gillingham reading instructional method, Levels I and II through The Institute for Multi-Sensory Instruction (IMSE). The Orton-Gillingham method is a scientifically research-based, systematic, sen approach to teaching reading by engaging an array of students' senses. My undergraduate studies included a minor in US and World history. As a former licensed massage therapist, I also have a strong background in the biological sciences. While I remain a resident of Merrimack, NH, for the past four years I have served as the Grade 5 Special Education Resource Teacher at the Nathan Hale Arts Magnet School in New London, CT-the neighboring town of my hometown, Groton. Last year I was honored to be named New London Public School's Teacher of the Year, 2022.
Worked together as teachers. Colleen and I have supported children in an academic setting within the same building for 10+ years. Recently, I had the opportunity to work with her in the same classroom. Colleen is professional, caring, funny, and motivational. She motivates her students to do the best they can do, while building their confidence. She is thoughtful, and willing to do whatever is needed to help her students learn, even if it meant reteaching the same material over and over. She has the patience of a saint! Outside of school, Colleen has become a dear friend. She is a great listener, trustworthy, and someone I look to for guidance and support. I cannot say enough wonderful things about her character. I am confident she will be successful in any position she obtains.
