I have recently just started to do this type of work. I worked for and elderly male who suffered from cancer and pulmonary disease. I would work starting on Friday's at night and I would spend the night until 8:00 a.m. the next day. I would arrive and fix dinner and tidy up a bit. We split the job between three people. My aunt would work all weekday and night, and I would work nights starting Friday, Saturday and Sunday night so my aunt could have the weekends off. My sister would work Saturday and Sunday mornings. We would fix dinner, keep the house clean, and changed his clothes when he got wet, (he used depends). We would help him with medications, help him into bed, and just basically be their for whatever he needed, like getting up which he could not do by himself. Also, his wife suffered from Alzheimer's and also has diabetes. We would bathe both of them when asked too and provide insulin to the wife and monitor and check her sugar level, mornings and afternoons. We were taking care of him, but she could not fix any dinner or give herself her insulin and had to be constantly reminded that she needed a shower. He passed away on Tuesday June 9th and his daughter came to Dallas. He will be buried in San Antonio and his wife will be going to a nursing home. We were all really sad that he passed and that she is gone to a nursing home so my assignment there has ended. I did not work that long for him but I am willing to work for someone in need of home care assistance. I work at Parkland Hospital and I am always assisting our patients in whatever they need.
