About Cheryl

Hello, I'm Cheryl, a dual certified Reading Specialist with a Masters in Literacy/Cognition. I understand how difficult it can be to see your child struggle in reading and not know how to help. I'm trained and experienced in a research based intensive phonics program, and I use it with K-3 students to teach phonemic awareness, phonics, decoding and high frequency word fluency. I use an extension of the same program with 4th and 5th grade students to teach word decoding by phonemes (sounds), graphemes (2-3 letter sounds), and morphemes (chunks of words with meaning). In addition, I use a nationally recognized reading intervention leveled literacy program to teach reading fluency and reading comprehension. I create personalized lesson plans geared to each student's needs and assess regularly to ensure progress is being made.
