I have had dogs and cats for my entire life and am very comfortable around them. Currently, I have two dogs. One, a rescue from California that we adopted on a family trip to a motorcycle competition. We had a dog when we adopted but a year after, our first dog went over the rainbow bridge. A year after losing him, we adopted again to give our other adoptee a playmate. They're both amazing. Growing up, I had cats. But after my last cat, of 17 years, went over the bridge, we decided as a family that we would take a break from cats. It is easy to travel with our dogs but the cats always get left home and that just isn't fair. I also had finches when I was very little. And parakeets and lovebirds. Fish a plenty. After my last betta fish left, I decided to pack up the fish related things and take a break, again mostly for traveling reasons. But I'd pet a crocodile if I didn't think it would eat me.
