My first experience with Special Needs caregiving came through a cherished friend, who has a brother with severe developmental delays. I spent years working with him as needed. Though in late teens/early adulthood at the time, he functions on the level of a 2 to 3-year-old. He therefore required assistance with all functions: eating, elimination, safety, entertainment, education, etc. It was a joyful and fulfilling experience. I have also cared professionally for multiple children with ADD, ADHD, Autism, Tourette's, Cerebral Palsy, and/or food allergies. It is always a privilege and an honor to assist families with knowledge, advice, and support for their incredibly important special needs members.
