About Cate

I learned I love working with kids when I became a Program Aid for Camp Paha under the City of Lakewood. Paha is a summer camp dedicated to people with special needs. There, I learned how to safely feed someone, the proper procedure required to transfer someone out of a wheelchair, and how to help someone go to the bathroom/change even if they were bigger than me. There were multiple times I had to help a child who was reacting violently while ensuring all other campers were safe and comfortable. I administered VNS's and followed individualized seizure action plans. Above all, I held some of the most awesome dance parties. My experiences have given me the ability to adapt and meet people where they're at. More so, it taught me that I love caring for people, even if that means being an 8-year-old's punching bag every once in a while.
