Having known Candice for over 10 years, I have witnessed her in a myriad of professional capacities. It is when she is working with children; however, that her Passion and Dedication truly shine through. Several years ago, Candice was charged with running a weekly soccer program for youth with Autism. At the time, she had tremendous experience working with the population, but only some knowledge of the sport itself. She immediately began researching the rules of the game, studied coaching techniques in countless articles/books, and brought on experienced athletes as assistant coaches, to help bridge the gap between her knowledge of the population and how the game could teach them skills with practical application. She began the program with an initial assessment of each child, and spoke with the parents to understand their individual and group goals. She designed benchmark tests and implemented objectives for the goals, to evaluate each child's progress throughout the program. As one of the assistant coaches for this program, I observed Candice working in her element, providing a safe, fun, comfortable environment for the children, while providing them tools for personal growth and success. By the end of the program, some of the children had made great strides, and it was clear that every single one of them had had a great time participating!
