I have over a years worth of unpaid experience with babies and toddlers. A lady who used to keep me, when I was around eight or nine was Muslim. She would go pray for long hours and she sometimes told me to watch the younger children while she went to pray. Most of them were toddlers or about four or 5 years old. I kept them quiet, made sure the babies had not rolled over into a position where they would suffocate. I obtained snacks and drinks for them as well. I looked after my siblings when they were babies and the children of cousins. I remember helping my cousin learn to walk when she was a baby. When my dad and step mom would come home tired, I would look after my two siblings who were, at the time, a couple months old and one. I warmed up their bottles, checked the temperature on my hand, changed their diapers and made sure they didn't crawl somewhere harmful or put something in their mouths. I also spent sometime rocking them to sleep. I now volunteer at a church nursery every couple of weeks. I look after toddlers and newborns. I supervise the toddlers as they play and I sometimes play with them when they allow me to. When watching the newborn babies, I do whatever the mothers request me to do while they are at service (keep them asleep, hold them etc.) I learn a lot from the mothers who volunteer there also.
