I have been working with individuals that have special needs for many years. I have been a volunteer for Special Olympics for 5+ years and a coach for a soccer league for children with mental and physical handicaps for 2+ years now. I have also had extensive training including being CPR and First Aid certified, as I was a volunteer in a special needs day care. This past year, I worked at the local recreation center as a summer camp counselor and had many children with autism, Asperger's, etc. Finally, all throughout my high school years, I worked as a teaching assistant in the Special Education Class. Throughout these years, I have come up with creative and fun ideas. I have also gained a lot of experience. I worked with kids ranging from no verbal skills at all to high functioning. I am studying in college to become a Secondary Special Education teacher. I am currently looking for a summer nannying position!

Brennan had been a student assistant for the Intellectual Disabilities Program for the last two years prior to her graduation in June. She was one of the best student assistants that I have ever had. She followed directions of staff, provided one to one support for our students and was the best peer role model that they could have. Brennan is bright, creative and energetic. She has an understanding about the difficulties that my students experience academically and socially. Without any prompting, Brennan joined the after school Best Buddies Club, She assisted with special projects with my students to include their participation in the school Science Fair, Community Based Instruction Trips and other academic, vocational and Life Skill Activities. She brought suggestions and items to the classroom that I continue to use today. She would be an asset to any program she is selected to participate in.
