Hired Beth for the summer and started planning 6 weeks before her start date. Confirmed days, time, pay SEVERAL times and in writing over the six weeks. About 3 weeks before her start date, I asked Beth to let me know if she has even a 5% chance of doing something else for the summer because a daycare spot opened up and I needed to pay the $800 deposit ASAP. She confirmed she was 100% committed to watching my child this summer. At 930pm on the day before her first day, she said she wanted more money and couldn't work for me for the summer. I had to miss work. Most of the sitters back from college for the summer had already accepted positions. If you want someone dependable or responsible, hire at your own risk.
